Katie Bird is an Equine Sports Therapist that specialises in Equine Sports Massage, Myofascial Release, Rehabilitation, Myopractic Adjustment & Physical Therapy for all types of horses and ponies. She is based in Taupō, New Zealand at Astek Stud, and regularly travels the North Island to treat.

Through evaluating the horse’s neuroskeletal dynamics, muscular structure, and assessing any bone misalignments/ subluxations it is possible to see where pain and dis-ease are caused in the horses body. Katie provides an effective treatment incorporating equine sports massage, myofascial release and acupressure techniques given to the ‘whole’ body, as a problem in one area\ often leads to problems in other areas.

Remedial exercises will then be recommended and advice will always be given to help avoid reoccurrence of the problem. Whether your horse or pony just needs muscular tension releasing after working hard or has a more serious issue where a full rehabilitation plan is needed. Katie would be more than happy to discuss your horse or pony’s individual requirements

This is where most treatments begin with the initial assessment.

Hear from Katie’s clients

“Katie has been treating my whole Eventing team since September 2018 and the difference in them in such a short time has been remarkable, making them all much more supple and happier in their work. Her knowledge and experience is vast and she happily discusses issues and explains things throughly so any level of rider can understand. I can not recommend her highly enough, she is now my first port of call when any of my team doesn’t feel 100%. Someone who is certainly a big part of my success with the team.”
